  • - For self automatic closing, Meets codes for hotels, motels, institutions, and commercial buildings.
  • - Maximum Door Sizes: As set forth in NFPA 80-2007, Section 6.4.3.1, unless specified in individual manufacturers published listings, the maximum labeled fire door size allowed for use with labeled self-closing spring hinges is 3’x7’.
  • - Where spring hinges are used on labeled fire doors, at least two shall be provided. All hinges or pivots used other than spring hinges shall be of the ball bearing type. The hinges in sizes 4-1/2”x4” and 4-1/2”x4-1/2” are approved for use on 4’x8’ labeled doors when a
    minimum of three (3) springs are used.
  • - For doors up to 60” in height, two hinges are required. An additional hinge is required for each additional 30” of height or fraction thereof. Material - Steel with Steel components ANSI K81071F.

Additional Notes

1. For maximum versatility use all spring hinges or a combination of spring hinges and ball bearing hinges. Do not use plain bearing hinges.
2. Full spring tension may not be required on all hinges.
3. Strong wind conditions, drafts, carpeting drag, twisted/misaligned frames, or weatherstripping on doors may require additional spring hinges.
